When editing a metric qualification in the filter editor, report filter panel, or custom group element editor, an 'Advanced...' button is visible. The button opens a dialog box with an option labeled 'When resolving this qualification in a report, other qualifications will be taken into consideration and merged'
This option specifies how other qualifications will apply to the metric qualification itself.
By definition, a filter is a condition that applies to a set of fact data prior to aggregation. (The other type of qualification is a limit, which preserves certain rows of a result that has already been aggregated.) To resolve the metric qualification, the Strategy SQL Generation Engine 8.x must create a SQL pass to identify a set of attribute elements meeting the qualification. This set is then applied to fact tables used in template metric calculations, to restrict the fact rows that are subsequently aggregated to the level(s) of the template metric(s).
This set may or may not evaluate with respect to other filter qualifications. For example, in the Strategy Tutorial project, one user may need a report to return monthly Revenue totals for specific Months (given in the report filter), but only for Items that sold at least 100 units within the time period in the filter. Another user may want to see Revenue totals for the same Months, but for Items that sold at least 100 units over all time.

The monthly totals are higher in the report that does not consider other qualifications within the metric qualification, showing that more Items were preserved by the filter that evaluates over a longer period of time.
This option is enabled by default, because typically the result is more intuitive if the metric qualification evaluates over the same data scope as the report in general.
