KB18342: Reports using the custom group 'Object Location' may return incorrect results in a non-English environment in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 9.x - 10.x

This article explains that objects defined in the MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager project are not adapted for Internationalization

SYMPTOM
When running reports in the Strategy Enterprise Manager project that use the custom group 'Object Location,' incorrect data may be returned if one or more of the monitored projects are running in a non-English environment.

For example, a monitored project contains hundreds of public objects; however, the following Strategy Enterprise Manager report indicates that there exist no public objects at all:

The following out-of-the-box reports could potentially effected by this problem:

  • 70. Summary of Application Objects by Project
  • 72. Summary of Schema Objects by Project

CAUSE
The custom group 'Object Location' is defined for projects that were created with English locale settings. In such projects, public objects are by default stored underneath a folder called 'Public Objects' and private objects are stored underneath the 'Profile' folder, and the custom group elements are defined based on these names as shown below:

However, in non-English environments, these folders have different names, e.g. 'Public Objects', is named 'Oggetti pubblici' in Italian, 'Öffentliche Objekte' in German, 'Allmänna objekt' in Swedish, etc. Therefore, the definitions of the custom group elements are not valid for those non-English environments.

ACTION
Create a new custom group  similar to the custom group 'Object location', according to the object names used in the monitored projects.
