SYMPTOM:
When using the Strategy Configuration Wizard to configure the Intelligence Server connection to the metadata, the action fails, and the following error is seen:

'User authentication failed: Cannot add a server instance with the same name as one which already exists'
CAUSE:
One of the steps in the Intelligence Server configuration is the action of connecting to the metadata to pick the server definition and projects to be used with the server. To achieve this, the Configuration Wizard creates a special instance of the Intelligence Server process called the 'DUMMYMDT' instance. This instance should normally only be seen during the configuration of the server. The error message shown above indicates that the 'DUMMYMDT' instance is already created and may also be active. Typically this may happen because a previous configuration attempt may have terminated due to an error before properly cleaning up the 'DUMMYMDT' instance..
ACTION:
To check if the 'DUMMYMDT' is present incorrectly (i.e. while no attempt to configure the IServer is being made) use the command:
./mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer li
Typically the result of this command should show only one entry - the default 'CastorServer' instance. If the DUMMYMDT instance is also seen, it may be removed using the command:
./mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer di DUMMYMDT
Once this is done, users may be able to configure the Intelligence as usual.
