KB18421: An attribute element prompt list does not show all elements available in MicroStrategy 9.4.x - 10.x

• Strategy

This technical note explains a possible reason for an attribute element prompt not showing all its elements, in MicroStrategy 9.4.x - 10.x.

SYMPTOM:
An attribute element prompt list does not show all of the elements for that attribute, but if the user searches for the missing elements, they do appear.

CAUSE:
One cause may be that the prompt list is hitting an outdated element cache so elements recently added into the warehouse don't to show up in the element prompt.

ACTION:
Element caches can be purged every time the warehouse is loaded with new data in order to obtain the most recent data. In situations where the data warehouse is loaded more than once a day, it may be desirable to disable element caching.

Element caching can be disabled for an entire project, for a particular project source, or for a specific attribute in the project's schema.

NOTE: The new settings will take affect only after Strategy Intelligence Server is restarted.

  • To disable element caching for a project in 2-tier or 3-tier, go to Project Configuration Editor > Caching > Elements and set the Maximum RAM usage (KBytes) to 0, as shown below:
