KB18561: ‘User Information’ information objects return no data when using a dynamic subscription set in MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 8.x

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x, when using a dynamic subscription set, the following error is returned for information objects which are used to retrieve 'User Information' (these are out-of-the-box information objects):
 
The dynamic subscription set used for the service was setup in such that only report or document information objects retrieve personalization preferences from the dynamic subscription data and all other information objects ('User Information' and 'Subscription Information') have their personalization preferences retrieved from the Subscription Book. Note: 'Subscription Information' information objects retrieve the correct information from the Subscription Book, the issue only occurs with 'User Information' information objects.
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue:
 

1. Setup a dynamic subscription set as per the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:

As discussed in the Strategy Knowledge Base technical note, the definition of the dynamic subscription information object, as shown below, has every property except the personalization preference set to 'Retrieve from Subscription Book'.
 

• Create an email service using the Service Wizard in the Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x Administrator console.
• In the body of the email (or in the subject line), insert the information object to retrieve the First Name of the User, as shown below:
  

• Verify that the user information (corresponding to users in the dynamic subscription set) is available. This can be checked by editing the user in the Subscription Book Editor, as shown below:
  

• Using the subscription information object created in step 1, create a dynamic subscription set for the service.
• Upon execution of the service, the delivered email does not contain the First Name of the user; instead the name is replaced with 'Error: Information Object returned no Data'.
