KB18790: Reports timeout before reaching either the database time out and report execution time out limit in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

CAUSE:
A SQL pass in the report exceeded the VLDB property governing setting 'SQL Time Out (Per Pass).'

ACTION:
Verify and adjust the VLDB property governing setting of 'SQL Time Out (Per Pass)' to an appropriate value. This VLDB property can be set at the database instance (project level) or at the report level.

To check the VLDB property at the report level, follow the steps below:

  • Edit the report.
  • Go to the 'Data' menu and select 'VLDB Properties'.
  • Expand the 'Governing' folder and select 'SQL Time Out (Per Pass).'
  • If the check box 'Use default inherited value' is checked, then check this setting at the Database Instance (project) level; otherwise increase the value to a number (this is in seconds and 0 means no time out) that suits the report requirements, as shown below:

To check the VLDB property at the database instance (project) level, follow the steps below:

  • Right click on the project and select 'Project Configuration.'
  • Navigate to the 'Database Instances' section.
  • In the provided list of database instances, select the database instance specified as the 'Warehouse database instance.'
  • Click 'VLDB Properties' to open the 'VLDB Properties (Database Instace)' editor.
  • Expand the 'Governing' folder and select 'SQL Time Out (Per Pass).'
  • Increase the value to a number (this is in seconds and 0 means no time out) that suits the report requirements, as shown below:
