KB18968: How to create and use links for reports and documents in MicroStrategy Web 10.x

INTRODUCTION
Linking is a new feature introduced in Strategy 9.4.1 for both traditional reports as well as OLAP cube reports. It is the ability to explore additional, related data by executing another document or report from within a document or report, in either Strategy Developer or Strategy Web 9.4.1.

A link allows context to be passed to any prompted report or document, whether the destination report or document is related to the original.

Pre-requisites to creating links:
Before creating links, users should:

  1. Ceate the source and target documents and reports.
  2. Know what types of prompts the targets require and how they will be answered

Creating a link:
Links are created using the Link editor. To access it, do one of the following:

  • In a report, right-click an object and select Edit Links.
  • In a document, right-click a grid/graph displayed as a grid, and select Edit Grid. Right-click an object in the Grid/Graph and select Edit Links, as shown below:

The following link editor opens:

ka02R000000kc0sQAA_0EM440000002Eoa.jpeg

  1. Click New to create a new link. Give the link a name.
  2. Click the Browse button (...) next to Run this report or document to find and select the target report or document.
  3. Assume the target report has a prompt. In this case select a prompt in the Target prompts list.
  4. Select a Prompt Answer Method from the following table below. By default, the Prompt user method is selected for these prompts.
