KB19124: ‘UnexpectedError: Object variable or With block variable not set’ error occurs when triggering a MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server service from MicroStrategy Command Manager

SYMPTOM:
The following Strategy Command Manager outline can be used to trigger a Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x service:

TRIGGER SERVICE "<service_name>" IN FOLDER "<location_path>";

 

When triggering a Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x service from Strategy Command Manager 9.x - 10.x running on a remote machine, the service trigger fails with the following error:

UnexpectedError: Object variable or With block variable not set
Task(s) execution completed with errors.

 
CAUSE:
The Microsoft Windows user running Strategy Command Manager 9.x - 10.x does not have sufficient DCOM privileges on the Strategy Narrowcast Server machine to trigger Narrowcast services.
 
ACTION:
Ensure the Microsoft Windows user running Strategy Command Manager 9.x - 10.x has sufficient DCOM privileges on the Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x machine. The following Strategy technical notes provide steps to set up DCOM for remote administration of Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x:
