MsiNetServer: Invalid Socket error.

In DSSError.log, the following errors are captured.

2013-07-11 00:59:56.558-05:00 [HOST:5x-930-hf1-yq][PID:28761][THR:1089665344][Network Classes][Error] Fatal error: unable to serve on any address.

2013-07-11 00:59:56.562-05:00 [HOST:5x-930-hf1-yq][PID:28761][THR:1089665344][Kernel][Fatal][0x800436FC] MsiNetServer: Invalid Socket.

CAUSE
Once possible cause is that port 34952 (which the Strategy Intelligence Server uses by default) is already in use. Another possible cause could be that some named pipes spawned by the Strategy Intelligence Server were not cleaned up.

ACTION
Run the following command to check whether the port is being used by another process:

netstat -ano

  • If the port is in use, e.g. by Health Center, then users can kill the process that is using the port or re-configure Intelligence Server process to use a different port number.
  • If the port is not in use, users can manually clean up the opened pipes which is that were spawned by Strategy.  Refer to the following document for detailed steps.
KB38385: "MSINetServer init_tcp(): bind() failed: port 34952 is already in use!" error message appears in DSSErrors.log when attempting to start MicroStrategy Developer 9.x
