Why do the '[RP/DP] Elapsed Duration hh:mm:ss' and '[RP/DP] Execution Duration hh:mm:ss' metrics sometimes show the same values in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 9.x reports?

At times, it may be observed that in Strategy Enterprise Manager 9.x reports, the ' Elapsed Duration hh:mm:ss' and ' Execution Duration hh:mm:ss' metrics return the same values:

The 'RP Exec Duration hh:mm:ss' and 'DP Execution Duration hh:mm:ss' metrics record the time a report or document job, respectively, took to execute. The 'RP Elapsed Duration hh:mm:ss' and 'DP Elapsed Duration hh:mm:ss' metrics record the time a report or document job was queued, as well as the time it took to execute. Document jobs also include the jobs that were necessary to run the dataset reports.

  • Execution Duration = Execution Time
  • Elapsed Duration = Execution Time + Queue Time

As such, if there was not a need for the jobs to be queued up on the Strategy Intelligence Server 8.x it is expected that both pairs of metrics show the same values. Stated another way, when the queue time is zero, it is expected that the metrics report the same values.
