KB19763: How to provide MicroStrategy Technical Support with a copy of Netezza database for troubleshooting purposes

Community Admin

• Strategy

Often times, for effective troubleshooting, Strategy Technical Support requires a copy of the warehouse tables. This technical note provides recommendations for providing these when the warehouse resides on a Netezza database.

Use the nzbackup command to backup a Netezza database, including all schema objects and all table data within the database. The nzbackup command is a command-line utility. You can pass parameters to the nzbackup command directly on the command line. To back up a database, you must have backup privilege.

The following is an example of the nzbackup command using the minimum requirements:

nzbackup -db testdatabase -u dbuser1 -pw dbuserpwd
NOTE: Please refer to the Netezza Performance Server Administrator's Guide for the full description of the nzbackup command and its options.

When the backup has finished the user should use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) in binary mode and copy the file to a Windows machine before sending to Strategy Technical Support. If binary mode is not used, the file will be corrupted and a restore of this file (using nzrestore command, see the Administrator's Guide) will fail.

If the zipped file is large, upload the information onto the Strategy download site. Contact Strategy Technical Support for any questions on uploading the information to the Strategy Download Site
