KB19803: Data load fails with the error message: "Login to project MicroStrategy Tutorial unsuccessful. Project not found", when multiple projects are monitored by MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 9.x and one or more of the projects are unavailable.

Data load fails with the error message: "Login to project MicroStrategy Tutorial unsuccessful. Project not found", when multiple projects are monitored by MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 9.x and one or more of the projects are unavailable.

SYMPTOM:
When multiple projects are monitored by Strategy Enterprise Manager 9.x and one or more of the projects are unavailable, the following error message is seen:

ka04W000000Of1JQAS_0EM440000002BCP.jpeg

Data loading has failed!
Login to project Strategy Tutorial unsuccessful. Project not found
A project is unavailable when the project is either:

  1. Unloaded
  2. In Request Idle
  3. In Metadata Idle
  4. In Warehouse Idle
  5. In Full Idle (Request Idle + Execution Idle + Warehouse Idle + Metadata Idle)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Log into Strategy Desktop 8.1.x.
  • Enable statistics for multiple projects by going to Project Configuration->Statistics. For this example, three projects have statistics enabled, namely, Strategy Tutorial, My First Project and Customer Analysis Module.
  • Open Strategy Enterprise Manager console and select the above three projects to be monitored by Enterprise Manager as seen below:

  • Log back in Strategy Desktop 8.1.x and run a report from each of the above projects so statistics from all three projects are collected.
  • Now let us make one of the three projects unavailable. For this example set the project to Request Idle by going to the Project Monitor (Administration folder under the Project Source) as seen below:
ka04W000000Of1JQAS_0EM440000002BCV.jpeg
  • Note: Full idle is obtained by checking Request Idle and Execution Idle. The Idle/Resume dialog box appears by right clicking on the project in the project monitor and selecting Idle/Resume.

  • Now disconnect from the project source and go to Strategy Enterprise Manager
  • Run a data load (scheduled, manual or custom time window).
  • Somewhere during this data load, the error "Data loading has failed! Login to project Strategy Tutorial unsuccessful. Project not found" appears.

CAUSE:
Since one of the three monitored projects was in Request Idle state, the project was basically unavailable and consequently the data load failed.

However, the other two projects were available but the data loader did not load the statistics for those projects either. This is logged as an enhancement with Technology.

An important thing to note here is that the data load for multiple projects occurs in the order of the Project GUID. The three projects from our example above are ordered in ascending order of their Project GUID as seen below:

  1. My First Project - A13890BC11D4E0F1C000EB9495D0F44F
  2. Strategy Tutorial - B19DEDCC11D4E0EFC000EB9495D0F44F
  3. Customer Analysis Module - F15FD1C743A55199D8FD919CA3143474

So the data load will first occur for My First Project, then for Strategy Tutorial and at last for Customer Analysis Module.

If 'My First Project' is set to Request/Full Idle, data load will fail for all three projects.

If 'Strategy Tutorial' is set to Request/Full Idle, data load will fail for 'Strategy Tutorial' and 'Customer Analysis Module' only.

If 'Customer Analysis Module' is set to Request/Full Idle, data load will fail only for 'Customer Analysis Module'.

In summary, data load occurs on the basis of Project GUIDs and hence will fail accordingly too.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.

WORKAROUND:

Remove the idle project from the Enterprise Manager list of projects to be monitored and perform the data load for the remaining projects. Alternately, un-idle the project and start a data load.
