KB200106: “Bursting attributes don't match with page-by/group-by structure in burst subscription” error message appears when trying to burst on one attribute when multiple attributes are available in the page-by section

SYMPTOM

When trying to burst on one attribute when multiple attributes are available in the page-by section, the bursting subscription fails and the following error message is seen in the DSSErrors log.

[Distribution Service][Error] FAILED SUBSCRIPTION 'pageby 8/29/14 12:07:52 PM': Error Msg: Bursting attributes don't match with page-by/group-by structure in burst subscription. Error Code 0x1. Instance ID = F4B46A464AAAC24CB14899AB8BFD0162, Contact (Administrator, 54F3D26011D2896560009A8E67019608), User (Administrator, 54F3D26011D2896560009A8E67019608). Stop in 'MSIDeliveryEngine::hDelivery, Delivery Component of Distribution Service'.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

The following steps to reproduce the issue need to be performed through in Strategy Tutorial project.

• In Strategy Developer, create a report (R1) with "Region" and "Country" attributes in the page-by section, and "Revenue" in a column on the report template as shown below.
  
  

• In Strategy Web, create a file subscription for R1 and burst only by the "Country" attribute as shown below.
  
  

• When the subscription executes, it will fail and the expected files will not be generated in the specified location.
   

CAUSE

This is working as designed. As the error message indicates (“Bursting attributes don't match with page-by/group-by structure in burst subscription”), the lowest level attribute in the page-by section is trying to be bursted, but this cannot be done as the data cannot be displayed accurately displayed in each resulting file. This is due to the fact that there is a higher level attribute in the page-by section as well. When multiple attributes are in the page-by section, only the highest level attribute can be used for bursting by itself.
 

ACTION

Burst only by the highest level attribute in the page-by section, or burst by all attributes in the page-by section.
