When creating a test and trying to connect to a remote Intelligence Server, a user might notice that the server name list is empty

CAUSE:
Integrity Manager uses the Windows TCP/IP hosts file to contact remote Intelligence Servers. This file contains server names and IP addresses for other networked machines that can be accessed from this machine.

ACTION:
The user must add the remote Intelligence Server entry to the hosts file for the machine Integrity Manager is running on. Follow the next steps to modify the hosts file:

In Windows

  1. Locate the hosts file under \system32\drivers\etc folder.
    • For Windows 2000 and Windows 2003, the system folder is C:\WINNT\.
    • For Windows XP, the system folder is C:\WINDOWS\.
  2. Open the hosts file with a text editor, such as Notepad
  3. For each remote Intelligence Server machine that the user wants to test against, add a line to the file in the same format as the examples given in the file.
  4. Save and close the hosts file.

In Linux

  1. Edit the hosts file on the machine. The hosts file is usually found in /etc/hosts
  2. Add the entries to the Hosts file by specifying machine name and IP address (e.g. 71.155.186.91 server.mynetwork.com).

After making the changes, the user will be able to execute integrity tests against the Intelligence Servers specified in the file. For any additional steps on your network configuration contact your system administrator.

CAUTION:
Modifying the HOSTS file on a machine incorrectly can interfere with name resolution. Ensure that a backup copy is made of the HOSTS file before modifications are made.
