Symptoms

The following error message appears when launching Strategy Desktop 9.X.x:

ka04W000000OfxJQAS_0EM440000002HGl.jpeg

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Diagnosis

A possible cause is that one of the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable that is automatically installed at the time of the Strategy installation was altered or uninstalled by another software installation that uses Visual C++.

Solution

1 – If possible uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ installed after the Strategy installation.
2 – Locate the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installations files under Strategy installation folder in \Installations\Utilities\3rdParty\vcredist.
3 – Run the vredist_x86.exe for Windows 32 bits or run both vredist_x86.exe and vredist_x64.exe for Windows 64 bits.

For additional information about the suggested action, refer to the Strategy technical note: KB38143: After installing new software, the event viewer shows Side by Side error and the Intelligence server stops running.
