KB201670: Prerequisites in Configuring MicroStrategy Mobile for iPhone or iPad to Receive Push Notifications.

Community Admin

• Strategy

This technical note describes the prerequisites to start configuring MicroStrategy to send Push Notifications to an iOS Mobile device.

Alert-based subscriptions can be used to ensure that users automatically receive notifications on an iPhone or iPad with Strategy Mobile 9.4.x and 10.x when a metric on a report meets specific threshold conditions. Alert-based subscriptions can be created using the Alerts Editor in Strategy Web. These alerts are then “pushed” to Strategy Mobile for iPhone or iPad by Strategy Intelligence Server.
The following are the prerequisites to enable push notifications for Strategy Mobile on an iPhone or iPad.
Prerequisites

  • Strategy delivers alert notifications through the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS). Therefore, an Apple iOS developer license is required to send mobile push notifications. For information about the various iOS developer licenses available, see http://developer.apple.com/programs/.
  • The Strategy Intelligence Server machine must have a direct internet connection to the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS).
  • Users must have Strategy Distribution Services to use push notifications with Strategy Mobile.
  • Push notifications must be enabled on an iPhone or iPad for the device to receive Strategy push notifications. In addition, the first time Strategy Mobile for iPhone or iPad is opened on a device, the user is prompted to allow the application to receive push notifications. The user must accept to receive push notifications.
  • The Strategy Mobile Server must be configured to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.
