KB20180: How to configure Tomcat 5.5 to SSL for testing purpose

Community Admin

• Strategy

Please follow the following steps to set up SSL for Tomcat 5.5.

  1. Create a certificate keystore by executing the following command:
    Windows:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA
  2. Unix:
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA
  3. Make sure to specify a password value of "changeit" for both KeyStore and Tomcat. The default password used by Tomcat is "changeit" (all lower case). To specify a custom password, server.xml needs to be modified. For more information on how to do it, please refer to this link http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/ssl-howto.html

  4. Uncomment the "SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector" entry in $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml and tweak as necessary.

NOTE:
Name of the keyStore created is: ".keystore"
Physical Location of the the KesStore is: C:\Documents and Settings\User(your profile)
For more information, refer to http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/ssl-howto.html
