SYMPTOM
In Strategy 9.X, users might notice that a URL API link that has been defined to pass multiple selections (for example, four or more based on a previously reported incident) from different selectors to a prompt (as described in the following KB Note: KB45965: How to pass multiple selections of different selectors to answer prompts using URL API? ) does not work properly when using Internet Explorer in Flash mode. When clicking on the link, the user will observer that the link appears to be "broken" and no target document ever renders.
If the URL API contains fewer selections (for example, three or less), the user will observe that the link will work in Flash mode and they will be able to open the target document and pass the selector answers from the source document to the target document. Furthermore, this issue does not occur in DHTML modes when using Internet Explorer and the issue does not appear to occur either when using other browsers regardless of the mode execution.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. Create a report with Item and a metric
  2. Create a document based on the report created in Step 1
  3. Create a slider selector, UC and allow multiple selections
  4. Target a panel stack with a
  5. Define a URL API link that passes a large number of selections (in this case, try four or more) from different selectors to a prompt as mentioned in TN: 45965
  6. In Internet Explorer, execute the document in Flash mode and note that clicking on the link will not work. If the document is executed in DHTML modes, note that the link will work
  7. Follow the same steps to define a URL API link that passes fewer selections (in this case, try three or less) and note that the link should execute in Flash mode on Internet Explorer

CAUSE
The reason that the URL API link does not work in Flash mode when using Internet Explorer is due to a known limitation with GET requests in Internet Explorer that limits the length of the URL to 2083 characters as explained in the following Microsoft Knowledge base link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/208427

ACTION
This issue was reviewed by our Technology team for feasibility and will not be scoped for a code fix in any upcoming Strategy release due to the deprecation of Flash view mode.

WORKAROUND
Using another browser that does not have this limitation (FireFox, Chrome, etc.) or execute the document using DHTML modes in Internet Explorer.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is 966736
