Included in the installation package of Strategy are installers for Microsoft Primary Interoperability Assemblies. These Microsoft Primary Interoperability Assemblies, also called PIAs, are used when Strategy Office is installed. A Primary Interoperability Assembly is a unique, vendor-supplied assembly that contains definitions of types implemented with COM. There can be only one primary interoperability assembly, which must be signed by the publisher of the COM type library.
Since there can be only one Primary Interoperability Assembly used, the correct PIAs need to be installed for the specific version of Microsoft Office that is being used. When support for Microsoft Office 2010 for Strategy Office was added (in Strategy version 9.0.2) the PIAs used the Office 2010 versions (o2010pia). Older versions of Strategy Office used the Microsoft Office XP PIAs (VS_2005_PIA). Later, when support for 64-bit Office was introduced in Strategy 9.3.0, the installer used embedded PIAs so the external assemblies are no longer required.
