This article describes an issue where after installing MicroStrategy Web Services on the same IIS server as MicroStrategy Web, using MicroStrategy Office causes MicroStrategy Web to hang.

SYMPTOM:
After installing Strategy Web Services on the same Web server as Strategy Web, using Strategy Office causes Strategy Web to hang. There is no error logged in the Web Errors logs or the web server Event Viewer.

An IIS restart is required to restore the Web application.

CAUSE:
This error occurs because the user does not have the correct permissions on the ASPNET user folder that resides on the Strategy Web server machine.

ACTION:
On the machine where Strategy Web is installed, ensure that the ASPNET user account has full permissions on the log folder under the following location: C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\WEB-INF. Perform the following steps to ensure that the appropriate security permissions are assigned:

  1. Right-click on the WEB-INF folder and in the Properties console, select the Security tab. Click 'Add'.
  2. In the 'Select Users or Groups' console, search under the local server name for ASPNET.
  3. Select ASPNET and click 'Add'.
  4. Assign Full Control to the ASPNET user account under the Security tab in the Properties console.
  5. Ensure that the ASPNET user account has Full Control privileges on all of the Strategy Web *.jar files under the following folder:
  6. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Strategy
  • Restart the Internet Information Server (IIS).
