KB203230: Thresholds Do Not Apply to Reports When There are More Than 255 Columns

This technote describe a defect where thresholds do not apply to reports in MicroStrategy Developer when there are more than 255 columns.

SUMMARY:
This technote describe a defect where thresholds do not apply to reports in Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.4 when there are more than 255 columns.  By design, Developer does not allow for more than 255 columns.  However, due to the defect, thresholds are not applied as expected.
SYMPTOM:
Threshold can be applied to values that meet a certain condition.  However, when there are more than 255 columns on a report, the thresholds will only apply to the first row.  All the rest of the rows will not have any thresholds applied.
Expected Behavior:

Unexpected Behavior:

ka04W000000OdhxQAC_0EM440000002CFr.jpeg

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Create a report with Year in the rows and Customer and Cost in the Columns.
2. Create a threshold that changes the format for when Cost > 100.
3. Notice that the threshold only applies to the first row.
4. Now create a report filter where Customer ID < 100.
5. Thresholds will apply to all rows.
CAUSE:
This is a known defect in Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x.
ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
WORKAROUND:
1. Execute the report in Web with the desired data and thresholds.
2. Create a report filter that limits the columns to less than 255.
