SYMPTOM:
In some cases the Strategy Intelligence Server 10.x is unable to start whenever Oracle Database which is hosting the Metadata throws a warning message that the Database password is about to expire. This warning message is only shown when querying the Database via an Oracle query tool.
On the DSSErrors.log users will see the following error message:
" StartUpManager::LoadServerDef(): Failed to create connection to DSS Server <CastorServer>`s metadata: HResult = -2147216380."
CAUSE:
The Strategy Intelligence Server needs to connect to the Metadata for startup, and therefore, if the Intelligence Server gets the warning message when first querying the metadata, it will not be able to start, since it is unable to interpret it.
ACTION:
Contact the Database Administrator to reset the password for the database. Once the warning message is no longer present, the Intelligence Server will start correctly.
