SUMMARY:
This technical note describes the behavior when export from Strategy Web. Instead of leveraging Internet Explorer 9 new feature--Notification bar, old style popup window is displayed.
SYMPTOM:
Starting from Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft released new enhance feature of notification bar for downloading, as shown below:
In Strategy Web 9.x, when export a report or Report Service document to Excel format, old style popup is displayed asking user to choose among open, save or save as, as shown below:
CAUSE:
This is by design behavior in Strategy Web. Strategy Web does not force exported file to be downloaded to client machine.
WORKAROUND:
It is possible to force file downloaded using new notification bar feature, following below steps to make changes to Strategy Web Server.
1. Open file exportFormats.xml under <Strategy Web Path>\WEB-INF\xml\config
2. Find the corresponding node, e.g. for export Excel from report, find "excelFormattingGrids" and "excelFormattingGridsIServer"; for export Excel from document, find "rwExcel".
3. Add a line force-download="true" to the node. To see an example, expand below node:
