KB204248: Error "The table xxxx could not be found, please check the table prefix defined for it. [empty]" and " Optional feature not implemented " occur when Show Sample Data for a table in the Warehouse Catalog in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x - 10.x

In Warehouse Catalog, when the user attempts to Show Sample Data for a table from Oracle database, the following error message pops up.


Error processing table structure

The table 'xxxx' could not be found, please check the table prefix defined for it.[empty]

In the SQL trace, the following error message is captured at the same time.


2014-07-29 15:58:10.914+12:00 [HOST:MSYINTDEV01][PID:1728][THR:2624][Database Classes][Error] Execute Query failed.

Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. [HYC00:0: on SQLHANDLE] [Strategy][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver]Optional feature not implemented.

CAUSE:
The table being retrieved contains columns in data type NVARCHAR2 which requires option "Enable N-CHAR Support" to be enabled in ODBC DSN. In this case, the option has been disabled and therefore error “Optional feature not implemented” returns from the Oracle database.

ACTION:
Launch the ODBC administrator and edit the Oracle DSN. In the ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol Driver Setup window, under Advanced tab, make sure option "Enable N-CHAR Support" is checked.

NOTE: While it is fine to edit the DSN through the Microsoft ODBC Administrator once it has been created, it is strongly recommended that the initial DSN creation for the Strategy ODBC Driver for Oracle Wire Protocol be done using the Strategy Connectivity Wizard, as certain DSN parameters are set by the wizard for optimal functioning of the driver with Strategy products.
