KB20441: 'The installer is unable to run in graphical mode' error occurs when attempting to install the MicroStrategy Universal 9.x or 10.x product suite

The MicroStrategy Universal 9.x or 10.x installer launches in graphical (GUI) mode by default. When the console shell is unable to use a GUI, the installer terminates with the error message.

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to install the Strategy Universal 9.x or 10.x product suite, the following error message may be thrown:

The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag.
CAUSE:
The Strategy Universal 9.x or 10.x installer launches in graphical (GUI) mode by default. When the console shell is unable to use a GUI, the installer terminates with the error message.
 
ACTION:
Contact the system administrator to determine if a graphical user interface mode is available for the machine. If one is, follow the instructions from the system administrator to access it. Once in the GUI mode, attempt the installation again.
 
If it is not possible to use a graphical user interface mode, then the installation will need to be performed via the command line. To perform an installation via the command line, use the '-console' switch when launching the Strategy Universal 9.x installer.
 
For example, the following syntax can be used to launch the Strategy Universal 9.x or 10.x installer on an Linux machine:
 
$ ./setup.sh -console
