KB204460: URL API constructed differently for share email link in the menu and the toolbar icon in MicroStrategy Web

• Strategy

URL API constructed differently for share email link in the menu and the toolbar icon in MicroStrategy Web.

SUMMARY
Very useful option for end users is the 'Share' functionality on a right-menu click window. It allows users to generate links to report or dashboard and send it to another user. The constructed URL is to execute that report or dashboard. When the 'Share' button is clicked within folder browsing page by right-menu click on a report/document, the URL looks like the following:

https://server-name/MicroStrategy/asp/Main.aspx?evt=4001&src=Main.aspx.4001&reportID=report-ID&visMode=0&reportViewMode=1&server=server-name&Project=project-name&port=0&share=1

The event in the URL is 4001. This event is for execution of a report object. However, if we access the 'Share' button within a report instance, the event will be different.

https://server-name/MicroStrategy/asp/Main.aspx?evt=4058&src=Main.aspx.4058&reportViewMode=1&_subscriptionID=A729FF68473A03B342E2B98A33D1C656&server=server-name&Project=project-name&port=0&share=1

The event specified above is 4058. This is an event to create a personal view subscription.

CAUSE
This behavior is by design. When  users are on the report page she/he has manipulated the report and to keep those manipulations, Strategy has to create a personal view. When we access 'Share' outside of a report instance, Strategy will construct the URL with execution action instead of creating a personal view.

NOTE
