KB205870: "Russia" still plots in an Image Layout map when only "Russian Federation" exists in the shape file in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

"Russia" still plots in an Image Layout map when only "Russian Federation" exists in the shape file in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 and above.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.4.1, customers can plot locations on an Image Layout map, as long as the data matches the location names in the appropriate VisFramework shapefile exactly. However, in the Countries of the World Shape Map an attribute element set as "Russia" will plot correctly even if the shapefile contains "Russian Federation".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Create a dataset that lists a few countries, including Russia.
  • Create a document based on this dataset, and add an Image Layout widget.
  • Execute the document. Notice Russia plots properly, as shown below:

  • For the "WorldImageMapCoords" shapefile notice that there are 3 entries for "Russian Federation" and not "Russia". The default location for this file in an ASP environment is C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\VisFramework\map

CAUSE:
This is expected behavior since Strategy Web 9.4.1 was enhanced to support several country alternative names for specific out of the box shape files. For more information refer to KB211990 World Countries and United States alternative names for the Image Layout Widget in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1
ACTION:
Refer to KB211990 World Countries and United States alternative names for the Image Layout Widget in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 for more information on how to use the alternative country names and how they work.
