SUMMARY

This technical note outlines an error message returned by the Oracle driver when trying to run SQL containing [ and ] characters around column names.

SYMPTOM

When a user runs a report against an Oracle database, they may encounter the following driver error:

"ORA-091747: invalid user.table.column, table.column, or column specification"

CAUSE

For Engine-generated reports, an invalid set of characters is used for the Column Pattern of this report. For freeform reports or transactions, invalid characters are manually placed around a column inside the SQL, such as [ and ].

ACTION

Revert the Column Pattern VLDB property to #0.#1 which is the default setting for Engine-generated reports. Refer to KB30665 for details on  this VLDB property.
If this is for any freeform report, remove any characters around the column objects.
