SYMPTOM:
SQL deadlock errors resembling the error below are observed in the DSSerrors.log during an automated Compliance Check in Strategy 9.x.

[HOST:WA0BIINT01][PID:888][THR:3852][Metadata Server][Error][0x80041404] Database error <5>: Execute Query failed. Deadlocked.

Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. [40001:1205: on SQLHANDLE] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Transaction (Process ID 144) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.

The following error message is also observed in the DSSerrors.log around the same time as the error above:

2014-09-29 00:03:11.603-08:00 [HOST:WA0BIINT01][PID:888][THR:3852][Metadata Server][Error][0x8004111A] Cannot save, move or copy this ServerDef object because it has been changed in the Metadata.

CAUSE:
The issue is caused by an inconsistency between the definitions of certain configuration objects as they are stored in the metadata and the object caches of these objects.

ACTION:
In this case, the issue was resolved by restarting the Intelligence Server.
Restarting the Intelligence Server purges all object caches thus resolving the inconsistency which in turn resolves the SQL deadlocks.
