SYMPTOM:
If only a text field is added to a layout in a Visual Insight dashboard, when it is executed, its toolbar disappears in Strategy Web 9.4.1 Hotfix 5.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Create a New VI Dashboard (choose any Dataset as the issue is not related to the selected Dataset)
2) Add a Text Field (Tools -> Add Text Field)
3) Put a long text in the text field (write it or paste if from any document)
4) Remove "Visualization 1" from Layout 1 (Only the Text Field will be left in Layout 1)
5) Add a new Layout
6) Configure any visualization in the new Layout (just adding an attribute of the selected Dataset is enough)
7) Go back to the first Layout with the Text Field (Layout 1)
8) Save the Dashboard and go back to the Strategy home page
9) Go to the folder containing the dashboard and execute it. Note the missing toolbar.

The following video shows the steps to reproduce to reproduce this issue:

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy 9.4.1 Hotfix 5

ACTION:
This issue is addressed in Strategy Web 10.0. Upgrade to this or a later version to take advantage of the fix.

WORKAROUND:

  1. Open the Dashboard
  2. Go to Layout 2
  3. Save and Close the Dashboard
  4. Open the Dashboard again. Now the toolbar will appear in both Layouts 1 and 2.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is 953816.
