KB213412: Users are not given the option to create folder objects in a folder in MicroStrategy Desktop 9.2.x - 9.4.0 and Developer 9.4.1.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

SUMMARY

This techincal note outlines an issue related to users not being shown the option in the Developer to create folder objects.
For purposes of this technical note, Strategy Desktop 9.2.x - 9.4.0 will be referred to as Developer, the name of the equivalent product offering in 9.4.1.

SYMPTOMS

When a user opens Developer and tries to create a new folder object, they are not shown the option to do so:

The user will experience the behavior even if the "Create new folder" privilege under Common Privileges is granted.
Users will also notice they are not allowed to save other objects they are allowed to create through the above menu.

CAUSE

This is because the user does not have the appropriate access control to the parent folder object.

ACTION

In order to create and save objects into a folder (assuming the appropriate privileges have been granted to the user for creating those objects), a user requies Browse, Read, and Write privileges to that folder, or Modify permissions.
