KB213504: How to retrieve report in xml format with Task API in MicroStrategy Web

Follow the steps below to retrieve report in xml format with Task API in Strategy Web:

1. Create a reportDataService Task in TaskAdmin page

1. Fill in the required fields as screenshot:

• Task Envelope=xml
• Task Content Type=xml[Default]
• styleName=ReportDataVisualizationXMLStyle
• reportViewMode=1
• resultFlags=393216

*In recent versions, if resultFlags=393216 is not included, below error will be returned. Please include resultFlags.

"Report has merge row headers. Make sure the report property 'MergeCells' is off, this can be done on the GUI through the grid editor" 

• For report with multiple pages, by default the returned xml only contains the first page. If user wants to return all pages, set maxRows a value greater than total rows, e.g. if the report returns 1950 rows in total, maxRows can be set as 2000.

1. Click on Update URL.
2. Click Invoke URL to see the returned xml file.
