KB214108: How to Programmatically Modify the Functionality of the Subscription Link to Redirect User to the Email Subscription Page Instead of the My Subscription Page with MicroStrategy Web SDK

Community Admin

• Strategy

SUMMARY: When a user performs folder browsing and have all objects listed as icons, there is a “Subscriptions” link that appear when the user hovers over a report or document. Clicking on this link will take the user to the My Subscription page for that report/document .It is possible alter this workflow and have the link take the user directly to the Email Subscription page using Strategy Web SDK 9.4.x.

Follow these steps to achieve the customization:

  1. In the Web Customization Editor (WCE), create a new transform that extends the FolderViewTransform class.
  2. Override the getSubscriptionsEvent method
  3. Add the logic so that it will return the event that open the Email Subscription page. A sample implementation is shown below:

    public WebEvent getSubscriptionsEvent(WebObjectInfo object) {

        WebEvent we = super.getSendNowEvent(object);

        we.setID(3036);

        we.putArgument(3036, "target");

        return we;

    }

  4. In the WCE, navigate to Application Settings > Styles > FolderStyleIcon.
  5. Replace the transform for this style with the new transform.
  6. Save the change and restart the application server.

Note:

  1. In the sample code, the web event for “Send Now” is used because it has the same argument as the event that needs to be implemented except for the event ID.
  2. The user can also create a new web event and set its arguments by using the following code: WebEvent we = new GenericWebEvent();
