"Object with ID 'X' and type Y (Z) is not found in the metadata. It may have been deleted." or "The requested object with ID 'X' and type Y (Z) does not exist in the object context." returned when running Project Comparison between two projects

SUMMARY

This technical note outlines an issue where customers may observe an error when trying to run Project Comparison or Project Merge between two projects.

SYMPTOM

Upon executing Project Comparison or Project Merge, end users may see one of the following error messages:

"Object with ID 'X' and type Y (Z) is not found in the metadata. It may have been deleted."

"The requested object with ID 'X' and type Y (Z) does not exist in the object context."

The object type referenced in the error messages can be most application and schema object types, including attributes (type 12) and reports (type 3).
If shortcuts are not included as part of the merge, the merge executes successfully.

CAUSE

One possible cause for this issue is that there are shortcut objects lingering in the source metadata which point to objects that are invalid or no longer exist in the metadata.

ACTION

Contact Strategy Technical Support for further assistance with this issue.

WORKAROUND

Do not include shortcut objects as part of the objects to be compared in Project Comparison or Project Merge.
