KB215828: The derived metric created through 'More function' and 'Enter Formula' show different values in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1

The derived metric created through 'More function' and 'Enter Formula' show different values in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.4.1, derived metrics created through 'More function' and 'Enter Formula' show different values.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce the issue with the Strategy Tutorial project:

  • Create a dataset report with Call Center, Subcategory, Revenue, and Units Sold.
  • Create a VI dashboard based on the dataset from Step 1.
  • Open the context menu of the ‘Revenue’ metric, and go to New Metric > More Functions...

  • In the dialog, select ‘Correlation’, and then go to next.
  • Select 'Revenue' in ValueList1 and 'Units Sold' in ValueList2, and click finish.

  • Open the context menu of the ‘Revenue’ metric, and go to New Metric > Enter Formula…

  • Input the expression with Correlation function, as shown in the image below:

  • Add the both metrics to the grid. Note that the metrics show different values.

CAUSE:
This is by design. In Strategy 9.4.1, an aggregation metric created from the Function Wizard has auto AFB (aggregate from base) /SFB (subtotal from base) behavior while the metric from the Formula Editor does not have this, because it is free text.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is being reviewed by Strategy for a potential code fix to have the functionality to specify AFB and SFB option in both the Function Wizard and the Formula Editor on an upcoming Strategy release.
