This document outlines a mobile issue where the mobile session expires and the connection is lost due to a known issue with iOS 8.x.

SUMMARY
This document outlines a mobile issue where the mobile session expires and the connection is lost due to a known issue with iOS 8.x.
SYMPTOM
In Strategy Mobile 9.4.1 users receive the error below:

The session has expired. Go back and run the report again to interact with it

AND

Error
Cannot connect to <server_FQDN>

NOTE: This is only seen when using an Apache mobile server and HTTPS communication.

CAUSE
This is an issue with Apples iOS 8 software and the “keep-alive” feature for connections.  In iOS 8, even though the mobile server disconnects a socket, the iOS client may end up trying to reuse it rather than discarding it as it should.  If this occurs, the errors above will be seen in the device.
ACTION
This issue has been logged with Apple support.
The issue has only been seen when using iOS 8 and an Apache server which communicates with the device through HTTPS.

To prevent Apples issue from affecting Strategy, disable the keep-alive feature on the Apache server.  This feature is typically configured in %APACHE_HOME%/conf/extra/httpd-ssl.conf.  Add the following entry:

BrowserMatch "MSTRMobile/IPhone" nokeepalive

By disabling the keep-alive option, a new connection will have to be created for every request to the server.  This will have a small impact on the performance.
