KB217890: Error message "fail to get group-by section root node for multi-layout document" displays when using bursting to send out files for a document with more than one layout in MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise Distribution Services

SYMPTOM:
Error message "fail to get group-by section root node for multi-layout document" displays when using bursting to send out files for a document with more than one layout in Strategy Analytics Enterprise Distribution Services.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

• Create a report with attribute “Year” and “Quarter”, and a metric “Cost”.
• Create a document based on the report. Add a layout in the document so now it has two layouts. Add a text in Layout 2.

• Add attribute “Year” to the group-by part in the first layout.
• Create a file subscription and add “Year” in the bursting part. Enable the notification email.

• After clicking “OK”, user would see the export confirmation message and an email claiming the file was delivered successfully.
• But when checking the file folder, there is no file generated. And below can be seen from DSSErrors.log:

CAUSE:
A prerequisite for bursting of multi-layout documents is the selected bursting attribute must be on all layouts.
ACTION:
Put the bursting attribute on all layouts. In the example above, add attribute “Year” on Layout 2.
