KB220028: CROSS JOIN is not seen when attempting to run a report with in Impala in Developer 9.4.1

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

SUMMARY:
This issue has been classified as working by design in Strategy SQL Engine 9.4.1. An Enhancement Request for this issue has been logged and is being reviewed for a future Strategy release. This issue only occurs against Impala when trying to use a Cross Join in SQL.

SYMPTOM:
When an End User attempts to run a report that should generate a Cross Join between tables against an Impala Database in Strategy 9.4.1, they find that the Cross Join does not appear but is replaced by a standard join.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Step 1) Create a report containing the attributes Year and Region against a non-Impala Database.

Step 2) View the SQL of that report and Developers will see a 'Cross Join'.

Step 3) Change the database to be Imapala and users will find the SQL does not contain a Cross Join as expected but shows a standard join.
