The impact of the issue described in this document is limited to report services documents being run on Android devices that were created using one of the iPhone or iPad templates in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.x and 9.5.x. Because there are no standard sizes for Android devices, dashboards created using iOS templates (iPhone or iPad) may not render correctly. The issue is sporadic in nature.

SUMMARY
The impact of the issue described in this document is limited to report services documents being run on Android devices that were created using one of the iPhone or iPad templates in Strategy Web 9.4.x and 9.5.x. Because there are no standard sizes for Android devices, dashboards created using iOS templates (iPhone or iPad) may not render correctly. The issue is sporadic in nature.

DESCRIPTION
A user creates a reports services document in Strategy Web and uses the “iPad Landscape” template. The report runs correctly and when it is distributed to both iPhones and iPads, it still has no issues. However, some of the recipients of the report are using Android phones and tablets. When they receive the report, some users have no issues while other users only see part of the report rendered. The other parts seem cut-off or illegible.

CAUSE
This is expected behavior. The temples in Strategy Web that specify iPhone and iPad are specified for those devices. Since there are very few form factors for iOS mobile devices, the template can easily scale up or down depending on the Apple device, since the pixel ratio and size is identical across iPhones and iPads of the same generation. However, unlike Apple and iOS, many different manufacturers make Android devices (Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, etc.). Because of this, sizes and pixel ratios vary greatly and there is no guarantee that a report optimized for an iOS device will have the same quality on an Android device.

ACTION
To avoid this issue, use the “Blank Document” template when creating report services documents that are going to be delivered to users of both Apple and Android devices. This ensures that the viewing parameters will be the same for everyone and there should be no scalability issues.

ADDITIONAL TROULESHOOTING:
If using the blank document template doesn’t work, you may need to contact Strategy Technical Support. If so, please have the following information available:

  • Screenshots of the report in Web
  • Screenshots of the report on the mobile device
  • OS version on the mobile device
  • Information on the behavior of the report in both portrait and landscape
