KB220511: It is not possible to directly embed a Report Services document into the body of an email in MicroStrategy Narrowcast 9.x - 10.x

SUMMARY:
This document discusses a known limitation in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x that prevents Report Services documents from being directly embedded into the body of an email.  
 
DESCRIPTION:
When creating a service in Strategy Narrowcast 9.x - 10.x, users notice that it is not possible to directly embed a Report Services document into the body of an email.  After selecting the document in the "Desktop Document Selector -New Document" window the following error is seen:

Currently selected object does not support delivery in the currently selected format.

• Create a new Service and specify Email (SMTP) as the delivery format
  
• Define the Message Body and select the option to link to an existing report, HTML document, or Report Services document
  
  

• Choose a Report Services document as the selection and the issue will be seen.
  

 
CAUSE:
This is a known limitation in Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x.  Currently, Narrowcast Server 9.x only supports embedding two types of documents in the email body: Narrowcast HTML documents with Information Objects and Flash (.html) documents.  Narrowcast Server 10.x only supports Narrowcast HTML documents with Information Objects in the email body.
 
ACTION: 
Currently this feature is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled release.
 
WORKAROUND:
This functionality is available in Strategy Distribution Services.  Users can create an email subscription and select the delivery format to be HTML as seen below.  This will allow the document will be embedded in the email body as desired.
