KB221276: “The element shown in the following hierarchy has invalid definition or no longer exists” error occurs when running a cube based report containing filtered element prompt in MicroStrategy 10.x

SYMPTOM
In Strategy 9.x, the following error is received when running a view report containing filtered element prompt:

The element shown in the following hierarchy has invalid definition or no longer exists

 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
The steps below are based on the Strategy Tutorial project:
    1.   Create a normal report called R1 with attribute Year and metric Revenue on template.
    2.   Create a filter F1 based on R1, filter qualification is shortcut to R1
    3.   Create an element prompt P1 qualifying on attribute Year and use filter F1 to reduce the number of elements
    4    Create an Intelligent Cube called C1 with attribute Year and metric Revenue on template
    5.   Create a report RC1 based on Intelligent Cube C1
    6.   Add element prompt P1 to RC1’s view filter
    7.   Run report RC1 to receive the error below:
 

Error(s) occurred while loading report: DSSSQLEngine: Schema loading error: There is error in report definition. The element shown in the following hierarchy has invalid definition or no longer exists: Report (). -There is error in report definition. Cube command failed with error -2147212797

 
CAUSE
This is working as designed. The prompt elements are expected to be resolved against the Intelligent Cube. However, the prompt is designed to run against a regular report. As such a case is not supported, the error is received.
 
ACTION
There is no action to take as this is working as designed.
