KB221634: Unable to retrieve synonyms from an IBM Netezza warehouse when reading tables in the Warehouse Catalog in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1

This community article describes a known issue with retrieving synonyms from an IBM Netezza warehouse in the Warehouse Catalog in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1.

SUMMARY:
This community article describes a known issue with retrieving synonyms from an IBM Netezza warehouse in the Warehouse Catalog in Strategy Developer 9.4.1.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Developer 9.4.1, users are unable to retrieve synonyms when pulling tables and views in the Warehouse Catalog. In DB Query Tool, the synonyms successfully display under the same connection.

Note: Custom read SQL cannot be used as a workaround per KB14933. SQL can only be used against certain databases with known standardized system tables that contain the necessary table/column/datatype/name space information.

CAUSE:
This issue is due to IBM Netezza database and how it responds to ODBC calls requesting table and column data from the database. IBM’s catalog fails to count synonyms as valid responses to the table request.

ACTION:
IBM is currently working on a patch on their end to resolve this issue. Contact IBM to receive this patch and to learn more on this issue.
