KB221669: The Filtering options on visualizations disappear after replacing a data set in a Visual Insight Dashboard in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1.

Community Admin

• Strategy

When filtering in a Visual Insight dashboard, users have the options to “Keep Only”, “Exclude”, “Keep Only and Show”, or “Show Data”

SYMPTOM
When filtering in a Visual Insight dashboard, users have the options to “Keep Only”, “Exclude”, “Keep Only and Show”, or “Show Data” as seen below:

However, when a user replaces a dataset with an identical dataset in a Strategy Web 9.4.1 Visual Insight Dashboard, users may notice that the options to “Keep Only”, “Exclude”, “Keep Only and Show”, or “Show Data” are no longer available when attempting to filter on existing visualizations other than simple grids. However, when creating new visualizations, the filter options will be available again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  • Create a report with at least one attribute and metric.
  • Save it as Report 1.
  • Create an identical second dataset but save it as Report 2.
  • Create a Visual Insight Dashboard based off of the report in Step 1.
  • Create a bar graph visualization.
  • Select one of the elements in the visualization and notice the inverted triangle button near the top of the bar that appears when mousing over the selected element. This button gives the options to “Keep Only”, “Exclude”, “Keep Only and Show”, or “Show Data”.
  • Now add the report created in Step 3 to the Dashboard.
  • Once the second report is successfully added, remove the first report that was added to the dashboard.
  • Repeat Step 4 and notice that the filter options no longer appear when clicking on the button:

CAUSE
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.4.1.

ACTION
The issue has been solved in Strategy 10.0. Users are encouraged to upgrade Strategy to version 10.x to avoid the issue.
