KB222056: "Document Execution Failed: One or more dataset reports returned an error." error encountered when attempting to create e-mail subscriptions via Command Manager

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Command Manager 9.4.1 & 10.x, a user may attempt to create an e-mail subscription for a document using the "CREATE EMAILSUBSCRIPTION" syntax within a script. However, upon executing this script, they encounter the following error message in the Command Manager log:

Error Code:-2147466604	Document Execution Failed: One or more dataset reports returned an error.

The same subscription, when attempted in Strategy Developer 9.4.1, is created successfully.

CAUSE:
Command Manager uses the Strategy Web API, which causes the document to be executed when the script is being created. If the document execution fails because one or more of the underlying datasets is broken, the above error message is returned, and the subscription creation fails. This can be confirmed by attempting to create the same subscription via Web and observing its failure. However, Developer does not execute the document first and is therefore able to create the subscription successfully. This is a known behavior in Strategy 9.4.1 & 10.x

ACTION:
The ability for Command Manager to create the subscriptions without executing the document is currently pending development for a future release of Strategy.

WORKAROUND:
Either create the subscription via Strategy Developer, or resolve the issue(s) with the underlying dataset(s).
