KB222062: Re-prompting nested prompts inside of a custom group causes the report to run indefinitely in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.1 iOS Update 4.

This Knowledge Base article describes a known issue that re-prompting nested prompts inside of a custom group causes the report to run indefinitely in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.1 iOS Update 4. This issue has been addressed in MicroStrategy Mobile 10 application for iOS. Upgrade to this release to take advantage of the fix

SYMPTOM:
Users have the ability to create a nested prompt structure inside of a custom group and apply this to a report in Strategy Mobile 9.4.1 App Update 4.  If this report is run successfully and then re-prompted on an iPad, answering the first of the prompts will cause the App to hang indefinitely.  The user will see the screen below, where the Running animation continues to display until the user exits the App.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create 3 filters and 3 element prompts based on the attributes Year, Quarter, and Month.  Each filter contains only one element prompt.  For example, Year prompt goes inside the Year filter, and the Year filter is set to filter the Quarter element prompt. For more information, see tech note KB10434.
  2. Create a custom group and input the 3 filters created above as separate conditions.
  3. Put this custom group in the page-by of a report, and save the report without any default prompt answers, and as prompted.
  4. Run the report in mobile.  Answer the prompts and notice that it comes out as a nested prompt structure.
  5. Re-prompt the report and change the answer on the first prompt, then click Apply.  Notice that the report now comes up with the 'Running' symbol, and this running appears to continue indefinitely.
