KB222211: The document section cannot be hidden when no data returned in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

A defect in which the document section cannot be hidden when no data returned in MicroStrategy Web.

SYMPTOM:
The document section cannot be hidden when no data returned in Strategy Web 9.4.1.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • In Strategy Web, create a report with the attribute Year in the row and the metric Cost in the column.
  • Convert the report to a Report Services document.
  • In the detail header section, add a grid with Year in the row and Cost in the column, add a text box with the text "TEST", drag the attribute Year to the Grouping, as shown below:

  • Right click the detail header section bar, open Advanced Conditional Formatting dialog, add a threshold that "Hide Section" when Cost "Is Null", as shown below:

  • Run the document in Interactive mode, note that the section cannot be hidden when no data returned, as shown below:

CAUSE:
This behavior is a new enhancement introduced in 9.4.1 for improving the performance of the dashboards with group-by elements.  The current design is if there is any group-by in the dashboard the group-by sections will not be hidden when there are objects like static text boxes. But Strategy is going to revert back to the old behavior which is to hide the group-by sections when no data returned.

ACTION:
This issue has been addressed in 9.4.1 Hotfix 9.
The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is 1003269.
