KB224891: Embedded images do not display correctly in emails sent by a MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server service

Community Admin

• Strategy

SUMMARY:
This technical note describes how to have images embedded in a HTML content Narrowcast Server 9.x service without the use of a web server or shared file location.

SYMPTOM:
Images embedded in a Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x service that delivers HTML content without the use of a web server or shared file location do not display correctly, even after following the steps in Knowledge Base Technical Note KB12559: How to embed an image into an HTML document without the use of a web server in MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 8.x  to set up the service.  The email will show a red X broken image icon where the image was supposed to be embedded, and the image itself will be attached to the email even though it doesn't display inline.

CAUSE:
If the "Use US-ASCII for Subject, Attachment names and Display names" option in the MIME options for the email device used by the service is not enabled, the image attached to the email will not be recognized so that it can be embedded inline.

ACTION:
Enable the "Use US-ASCII for Subject, Attachment names and Display names" option in the MIME options for the email device used by the service (by default, "Generic e-mail client").  To access this option, expand Administration > Devices > Web > Desktop Clients and right-click on Generic e-mail client and select "Edit", then select the MIME Options tab.
