KB226824: A custom home screen using a custom list of folder, documents, or reports does not display as in the preview shown in the Mobile Configuration page in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.5

A custom home screen using a custom list of folder, documents, or reports does not display as in the preview shown in the Mobile Configuration page in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.5. This is working as designed in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.5. A design change was made to move towards the Apple design trend, thus showing the list displayed in the second image above.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Mobile 9.5, users have the ability to define a custom home screen for a particular configuration. This custom home screen can be either a report or document, or a custom list of folders, documents and reports. When creating an iPhone configuration, this custom list has a format consisting of buttons, which looks similar to the example shown below.

However, when using Strategy Mobile 9.5, the mobile application will display a standard list of reports/documents instead of showing this formatted screen. An example of what the 9.5 application looks like is shown below.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Create a new mobile configuration from the Strategy Mobile 9.5 Administration page.
  • In the Home Screen tab, choose the option to "Display a custom home screen"
  • Within the custom home screen menu choose the option to "Display a custom list of folder, documents, or reports". The previous two settings are shown below.

  • Configure the rest of the Strategy Mobile configuration settings and send the configuration link to a Strategy Mobile 9.5 mobile device.
  • Open the link on the mobile device and notice that instead of seeing the different buttons, the application will present the user with a list of the reports/documents that were added to the custom home screen.

CAUSE:
This is working as designed in Strategy Mobile 9.5. A design change was made to move towards the Apple design trend, thus showing the list displayed in the second image above. However these changes have not yet been reflected on the Strategy Mobile Admin page in the configuration editor, thus the first image above is shown as the preview.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate the issue in Strategy Mobile Admin page and post updates as soon as they are available.
WORKAROUND:
Design a document with shapes, images and links to other documents. Set this document as home document in mobile configuration editor.
