"DB Instance object 'XXX' (ID: XXX) cannot be deleted because catalog object 'Catalog - XXX' (ID: XXX) in project 'XXX' (ID: XXX) depends on it."
CAUSEThis is a known issue in Strategy Command Manager 9.4.1 in that Command Manager is allowing the removal of database instances from projects, even though they have dependents existing in the project. Trying to remove the same database instance from within
Strategy Developer -> Project Configuration would not be allowed due to the dependents existing.
NOTE: In this instance, the dependent objects were freeform sql reports which referenced the database instance
ACTIONPlease contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.
WORKAROUNDAvoid removing database instances from projects using Strategy Command Manager, especially if freeform SQL reports are used within the project.
If this issue has been encountered the following steps can be used to alleviate the issue:
- Add the database instance back to the project by selecting it within Project Configuration, or by running the script: ADD DBINSTANCE "<database_instance_name>" IN PROJECT "<project_name>";
- Within Developer, follow KB35338 to search for freeform SQL reports existing within the project.
- Edit the freeform SQL reports and modify the database instance used so it is not pointing to the database instance being removed. Do this for all freeform sql reports it is being used in.
- Once it has been removed from all reports, the database instance will be able to be successfully removed and deleted if desired.
