KB232826: Table name displays in square brackets instead of quotes when the database connection type is set to Generic DBMS in MicroStrategy 9.4.1 and newer

This KB describes an issue where the table names (or in some cases, the database names) are enclosed in square brackets instead of quotes for the table names/database names with special characters.

SUMMARY:
This KB describes an issue where the table names (or in some cases, the database names) are enclosed in square brackets instead of quotes for the table names/database names with special characters.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.4.1, users will notice table names, table prefixes, and/or database names enclosed in brackets instead of quotes, like shown below:

select   distinct a11.REGION_ID  REGION_ID,

            a11.REGION_NAME  REGION_NAME0

from     [Table-Name].LU_REGION      a11

However, the expected query for the database is to display the table name/prefix in quotes, like shown below:

select   distinct a11.REGION_ID  REGION_ID,

            a11.REGION_NAME  REGION_NAME0

from     “Table-Name”.LU_REGION     a11

CAUSE:
This is working as designed. In Strategy 9.4.1, table names/database names with special characters are enclosed in square brackets when using the Generic DBMS database connection, like in the example above. This can cause issues for databases that do not accept SQL containing square brackets as proper syntax, such as DB2.

Note: It is important to mention that naming using special characters is never suggested as per the Strategy best practices.
